Coker baseball steps up to the plate

This past weekend, the Conference Carolinas Battle in Burlington (Burlington, N.C.) continued with its baseball championship series. My school, Coker College, took home the trophy and secured a bid into the 2013 NCAA Southeast Regional Series May 16-19th.
What makes this so special for the Cobra community is the first conference championship for the program since 1996! This was also the first conference appearance for the Cobras since 2008.
Seeded eighth in the Conference Carolinas preseason poll, the Cobras fought hard all season and, by April, were nationally ranked at 29th in the country and sixth in the southeast region. Going into the conference tournament, they had sewed up the No. 2 seed for tournament play.
When the time came for the conference series, Coker was going strong with ace pitcher Zach Lorraine, who is now leading the nation in shutouts with 14. In the tournament, Coker won four elimination games to capture the title. In the final ...
