Jim has had over thirty years of experience in the field of community and economic development, having been the Chief Executive Officer in Chambers of Commerce and Economic Development Councils in Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois. In 1995, Jim established Winning Communities™, Inc., a company that helps communities and organizations envision the future and develop goals, measurable objectives, and action plans for achievement. He has led boards, community leadership, and staff in the development of the mission, goals, and objectives for dynamic, action-oriented organizations.
Jim has led efforts that resulted in the successful accomplishment of the building of highways, airports, revitalized downtowns, education foundations and other value-added projects. Through his economic development work, thousands of jobs and millions of dollars of capital have been added to local economies.
For the past seven years, he has been responsible for the public involvement portion of the Interstate 69 Environmental Impact Study for the Indiana Department of Transportation covering twenty-six counties. This effort has drawn praise as an “unprecedented public involvement process”.
Jim is a Certified Chamber of Commerce Executive and has taught Community Analysis and Development at the Institute for Organization Management at Notre Dame University, the University of Georgia, and the University of Delaware. He is a past board member and President of the Indiana Chamber of Commerce Executives Association and past Executive Committee member and Treasurer of the American Chamber of Commerce Executives Association. He was active as a member of both the Indiana and Ohio Economic Development Councils.
The Indiana Bankers Association and the Community Bankers Association of Illinois have endorsed Winning Communities™. In 2010, Jim began working as a consultant with the NCAA Division II in expanding the Community Engagement initiative as well as with the National Federation of High Schools.
Jim, and his wife, Jan, a professional dental hygienist, reside in Carmel, Indiana where they spend time with their three children and nine grandchildren. He is past president of the Plum Creek Farms Homeowners’ Association, pursues golf, and is active at St. Louis de Monfort Catholic Church.
